They will qualify to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame 25 years after their first album was released.
So what are the chances of Roxette being inducted in 2011?

Unless Per pays, it's very unlikely - there's too many other, better bands to induct first!  You know, proper rock bands?

My money's on Ace of Base getting inducted before Rox, but even then that's unlikely Wink

Regarding the Swedih artists, if ABBA has not been inducted yet (they sold more than 300 million records and there's a revival fever stronger than ever at the moment), Roxette doesn't stand a chance for now.

One way or another, this kind of 'list' is always partial. I don't really care.

For example here are a few names of inductees:
The Ronettes,The Dells,Brenda Lee,Gene Pitney,The Flamingos,Lovin' Spoonful,The Shirelles,Etta James,Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers,Ruth Brown,The Dave Clark Five,The Ventures
Not that I'm saying anything bad about these artists.I just mean that if they can get inducted then Roxette deserves to get in.
I absolutely agree.

Ace of Base?I didn't think they were nearly as big as Roxette.I thought Ace of Base only had three or four hits. All That She Wants,The Sign,Don't Turn Around, and maybe Living In Danger.Plus the first album from Ace of Base didn't come out until 1993 so they don't qualify to get in until 2018.
I think it's fairly similar, the AOB/Rox fame thing.  Both had big bursts of popularity, before sales, etc began slowing down to almost nothing.  Rox sold around 60 million records (albums and singles), AOB sold 32 million albums, and have the biggest selling debut, still.  And the fact that AOB are still functioning, playing live and making music allbeit without their main vocalist and with no new album in sight, unlike Rox I note, is pretty cool.  But I digress.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is surely for people the juries consider have provided a special contribution in moving music forward.  Per is only ever mimicking his music idols or what is commercial and what will sell (He said that LTYH was hamming up Heart's Alone or something like that, my memory isn't great).  How can that be considered?  And the people who are included are legends, living or dead.  The older acts had some iconic songs, and the living legends are still pushing the boundaries of rock music.  Rox never have and never will.  If anything, they've just done safe.  HAND was the most dangerous they got, and it bombed.

I really thought ABBA had been inducted - is their music too cynically polished and manufactured to get in?

Be My Baby/Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/24 Hours From Tulsa> IMHBL/LTYH/whatever.  Million times greater.  Look at this list, compiled by them http://www.rockhall.com/exhibithighlights/500-songs

Anything like Rox on there?  Nope.  Anything like AOB there?  No.  Neither stand a hope, but personally, I'd put my money on AOB, if ever.  I'm a Brit, I go for underdogs!

Well, if Madonna was inducted this year, why not ABBA? Indeed, Madonna is far from being a rock artist. Really. At least B&B are musicians, composers and arrangers in their own... I just can't believe Stevie Wonder is there since 1989. What's this people concept of rock music?

People, don't forget this shitty Hall is an American thing (and hence, quite biased). Be sure The Backstreet Boys, Justin Timberlake or any other obscure American one-hit-wonder will be inducted earlier than ABBA or Roxette. As some Hyline2000 stated above, some of the former inductees were not that great nor that 'influential' as they suppose.

I found a very interesting article about this matter. You can read it HERE  Smiley

Toni Basil is more famous for her choreography work though, surely?  Her work with acts like Talking Heads (Once In A Lifetime) and David Bowie (Diamond Dogs tour) is probably why she's there.  Mickey is just another reason for it.

It's a bit hard to say about Marie - who do you think she influenced, and why?

Have to say I disagree with most of your list - if only because there's merits for each of them.  The Go-Go's are a great example of new-wave, and a proto girl group, the first or one of the first all female bands - how is that not important to rock music?  Billie Jean is Micheal Jackson crossing over into the mainstream.  U Can't Touch This - sampling and it brought rap into pop charts.  They're not picked out of thin air, they all have merits for being there, be it iconic status, longevity of a song, evolution, or breaking new ground with sound, production, dancing, whatever.  Roxette, so far maybe have one of those - if they had more, then maybe they would stand a chance.

People seem to forget that Roxette made it easier for other Swedish artists to make it internationally. Look How hard it was for Roxette to release anything outside of Europe, an then look how many Scandanavian artists are big these days.

Thanks partly to roxette.

Cheers

No.  It's like the Oscars, nominations are not open to the public.

You do realise you can put multiple quotes in the same post?  It looks less cluttered and makes things easier to read

No, if anything (for me), it makes it more confusing!  You can quote, delete, quote, delete and seperate points out with blank lines.  That might be an alternative which is equally if not more courteous because it doesn't make you look like you're deliberately driving up your post count (just kidding Wink).

So is that what it looks like I'm doing? Well,I don't want it to look like that.
Yes,I understand I "can quote, delete, quote, delete and seperate points out with blank lines".You stated that is "more courteous".
Perhaps I'll do that next time. But for now I did what wasn't just"more courteous"but instead the most courteous.I deleted several of my posts.
I'm a newbie once again Smiley.Perhaps now it won't look like I'm"deliberately driving up"my post count.And hopefully things will look"less cluttered",be less"confusing",and"easier to read".

PS I wanted to show one more courtesy and inform you that there is a spell check button you can use when making a reply. You stated "seperate points out with blank lines".The word is actually spelled separate

Have a nice day!
