Question about Marie's voice live 1989-1991

hi,
i'd like to ask why marie's voice was so strained on the look sharp live videos (dance away, cry, paint), sweden live and espeically, the live in sydney and zurich joyride concerts. she sounded constantly out of breath! "do you get excited" from zurich is especially painful to watch/
and why has marie sounded much better since the 1992 leg of the joyride tour? the difference b/w the 1991 and 1992 concerts vocally is astounding! and of course, marie's voice on the cbb tour and since then has been almost perfect live!
thanks!

I agree her voice on the CBB Tour was in great shape but... since then? If that includes the 'Room Service' one, I have to say
NO
. I can't listen to these live takes from 2001, I hardly hear her voice there

I think Marie's best live performances were during 1992 & 1993 highlights in DSR tour , Berlin summer Joyride & Unplugged and some performances during first leg on CBB tour as Rotterdam and Stuttgart .-.-.-
I agree with you Raëlian in 2001 for the first time i hear + Per than Marie

Mmm I have always loved her voice from the LS/JOYRIDE era. It had that husky quality that I love, she had great power and she was so confident in it! No problems for me the way she sang back then. These days things are different for all the various reasons we know about but one thing has never changed and that is she still sings with great heart and I don't think that will ever change

Marie was a smoker.Smoking is one of the worst thing a vocalist can do for their voice.I heard she stopped smoking when having her first child. So,if she wasn't smoking during the CCB! tour that could explain how her voice improved on that tour.

I read that Roxette and the band were unhappy with the sound from that concert. Not nesssesarily because of Marie's voice. But because of the venue wasn't really ideal for getting a good sound.I read they had to work hard at the sound check to try to get everything sounding ok.There may have been plans to include more songs on the Look Sharp!Live home video if the sound quality was better.

It may have just been an issue of vocal conditioning. Some singers have trouble adjusting to the strain of singing night after night.Especially at the beginning of a tour.By the time the 1992 leg of the joyride tour rolled around Marie may have gotten her voice in better shape and developed better vocal endurance.
