There's no guarantee that Marie would have ever done a better job singing backup.  We just don't know, do we? 

Her backing vocals in "I'll Be Alright" or "På promenad genom stan" are nothing impressive, if you ask me. I can hardly hear her voice, I wonder what's the point (even if I know that was the producers' decision, she didn't have a say there).

I don't think Helena is the real problem. It's her now, but it could anybody else. Per could recruit Mrs. Streisand or Céline Dion as a backing singer, but the fans will always complain, because "her voice is too much annoying!" "she sounds like a tin-can" or such. The only way to keep (most of) the fans happy is to get Marie involved in every project... sad but true.

I think Helena's voice fits in some songs but in other she sounds tin can. And Celine Dion would make me puke!!!

I don't know. Marie was always perfect, also as "only" background, I think.

Exactly, Helena and Marie are chalk and cheese vocally - very different singers and different styles of singing.  However, to say Helena can't do GT is unfair - she's done it before, and fairly well too.  She sang back up on F5F too (right?), so she has as much right to sing GT as Marie does/did.  And Per wouldn't be so stupid as to sully his own precious limelight at solo concerts by including a song that features someone who would steal limelight from him?  Also, Helena singing Rox at a concert is VERY unlikely to happen - Per never performs English stuff live now.  Why would he?  Most of his stuff is in Swedish, and also, if it's his concert, why would he share limelight with Marie by performing one of the songs he has done with her?  It's his stuff, his career, she's involved but not if you catch my drift...


Per likes Helena, so he uses her.  Don't like it, tough.  He doesn't care a jot what you think!  It's his music, made for his pleasure and his monetary gain.  Fans don't factor into it

Yes, and I'm sure your money will fund yet another.  Accept it, he doesn't care where the money comes from, he's rich enough not to, he's rich enough to put out whatever crap he wants, safe in the knowledge that someone will buy it.  To think he's doing it for you is naive, in fact it's stupid.  The music industry has created this veil of 'making music because we care about you'.  THEY DON'T!! They just want your money, as does Per.

I hardly believe the common buyer reads through the credits of a CD before buying it. Nobody does. Only fans care about the girl singing the backing vocals or the guy playing the flute because fans believe they always have a say, and that their opinions will be considered. And the fans will buy it one way or another, no matter Helena is involved or not. No need to say the fans will buy even 2 copies if there's a digipack/special edition available too. Everybody hates Helena, but every album he puts out always reach the #1 spot (in Sweden, at least)

If Per does not mind at all what fans like or not then he is really arrogant.
But I do not think he is that way.
In my opinion he thinks if he likes it the fans will like it too. He cannot imagine someone could hate Helena's voice if he loves it.

There are enough of fans who buy everything that "Per Gessle" is written on it, so he can do whatever he wants and will not get rid of his opinion that everybody likes it.

Music is about creativity, it's the expression of your own thoughts, ideas and feelings. Even if the music composed by Per is quite commercial, it's a matter of inspiration too. I don't think he's arrogant. Do you imagine a painter asking his potential buyers or his marchant: "what shade of blue should I use in this picture?". It's frankly ridiculous

It's art. He can't please everybody.
